In the book The Picture of Dorian Gray which is written by Oscar Wilde, there is a sentence “There is no doubt that Genius lasts longer than Beauty. That accounts for the fact that we all take such pains to over-educate ourselves.” The idea about the comparing beauty and genius is not so important for me because each people can look that part in a different perspective. But I really do not understand the part "we all take such pains to over-educate ourselves". Pain to over-educate ourselves?!! That means we all educate ourselves in this life for nothing? ROFL!!! No way mate! If all we do is for nothing why we live? To be happy? To make other people happy? Go jump from a bridge then. Why not, you said we all take such pain to over-educate ourselves. If Oscar Wilde supports beauty and criticise the genius that means he live to see beautiful things. But if you do not open your eyes someone can do it for you with killing these good things.
"People say sometimes that Beauty is only superficial. That may be so. But at least it is not so superficial as Thought is." Same thing continuous in here. I think Oscar Wilde must think about the relation between genius and beauty. Beuty is temporary. We can not live for the thing that will disappear. Genius is not like that. Genius is all about your intellect and knowledge. You can improve it, you can read books, you can search, you can share your ideas with people. There is no limit!

I also don't agree with Oscar Wilde. He says knowledge is something that you can learn and develop in your free time, but I think he is aware of that, human can't live without genius. Moreover, even his statements support that beauty and pleasant are more important than anything else, his heresays are parts of his genius. He does recommend to seek for beauty in life, but he says that with wisdom, not with beauty. So that, he contrasts with himself, and unfortunately people around him believes and disregards that point.

Umur said very well and also, you or we are not important in this world.If you want to be happy, do your responsibilities and in your free time, fun, just fun. We take pains because we are trying to improve us like you said that genius is better than beauty at the end but you are in contradiction. You are right sometimes. Genius is very important thing and we can improve it with education. Also you are right about beauty is temporary. It is temporary, but you can see beauty, but you can’t feel genius with your five senses. You can understand that with your brain. So both of them is necessary for our life. We have to have intellect and knowledge, but sometimes those are not affective as beauty. When someone falls in love he loves the other, because he sees that the other is a beautiful person. For someone the other can’t be beautiful but for him the other is beautiful. I think government should help ugly people to make them beautiful. Because they are giving education. Also you can’t go to any school only with your beauty. But you can go to school only with your brain.

We all know that Ocar Wilde lived at Victorian Era and he is the son of Very Very wealthy person. He is an artist and he see the improvement of the industry revolution. With all of these informations, I think that he should have realized the important role of genius in his life but he has more that it, He can create beautiful things and he cares only beauty and pleasure because his life was restricted his sexual desires are not allowed. Therefore he wanted to live fully.
